Bringing farm-to-table dining to Peterborough’s Hunter Street Café district, Hunter strives to serve entirely local, Ontario grown food with a focus on sustainability, animal welfare, and organic practices.

Our ‘eat local’ concept extends to our carefully curated beverage program that features an all VQA wine list, and over 50 Ontario craft beers.

With rustic barn board decor, vibrant local artwork, a large garden patio, and an open concept kitchen, Hunter offers both a cozy place to unwind and a unique dining experience. Our knowledgeable team invites you to join us for an elevated, yet uncomplicated experience.

Elk Carpaccio
Our house specialty.  Thinly sliced elk with house croutons, house  made cilantro dressing and fresh lovage.

Korean Fried Cauliflower
Firm bites of select Ontario cauliflower dressed in a sweet and salty soy reduction, gently deep fried and served with market fresh vegetables.


Grilled Ontario Shrimp
A quarter pound of fresh shrimp harvested at First Ontario Shrimp Farm in Campbellford, lightly tossed in house made hoisin and served with a sweet and spicy chili pepper preserve.

Crisp Rainbow Smelt
Delicious and sustainable local smelts dusted with Chef’s family seasoning and cornmeal, with house gherkin and fricasee du Homard.

French Onion
Sweet caramelized Ontario onion, beef stock, Creekside Syrah and brandy broth, house crouton, Niagara Gold cheese.

Market Squash
Sweet roasted squash pureed with sweet Ontario onions and house vegetable stock, finished with crème fraiche and scallions.

Soba Salad
Soba noodles topped with carrot, pickled parsnip, sweet bell peppers, Waymac Farms cremini mushrooms and house-made sesame vinaigrette.

Kohlrabi Apple Salad
Crisp Ontario kohlrabi and autumn apple julienne, fresh tarragon, Muskoka cranberries, toasted sunflower seeds, and house dressing.

Autumn Salad
Ontario grown potatoes and root vegetables served warm with crisp pork belly, Crosswind Farm Feta, and dressed with house poppy seed dressing.

Toscana sheep’s milk, Mariposa Dairy, Lindsay ON.  Mild, sweet, and nutty.  A multiple award winning cheese.

Aged Gouda style cow’s milk, Glengarry Fine Cheeses, Lancaster, ON. Named “Supreme Global Champion” at the Global Cheese Awards in 2013.  Mild, butter/creamy, with no bitter or sharp notes; mellow and complex. Widely regarded as the best cheese in Canada.

Celtic Blue
Cow’s milk, Glengarry Fine Cheeses, Lancaster, ON. Savoury, tangy and very buttery with an underlying saltiness.  A mild blue.

Goat’s milk, Albert’s Leap, Vaughan, ON. Soft, creamy and chalky with a layer of vegetable ash. Bloomy rind.

Oxford St
Buffalo Gouda Water Buffalo Milk, Quality Cheese, Vaughan, ON. Sweet and slightly grassy. Buttery with some nutty notes.

Golden Blyth
Goat’s milk, Blyth Farm Cheese, Blyth, ON. Firm, mild, rustic cheese.  Sweet and savoury with some caramel and pineapple notes. Balanced with a delicate saltiness.

Mouton Rouge
Raw sheep’s milk, Best Baa Dairy, Fergus, ON. Nutty rind with a buttery paste. Fresh and grassy.

Pheasant Normandy
A classic French autumn dish.  Ontario pheasant roasted with autumn harvest apples, Waymac Farms cremini mushrooms, crisp fried sage and crisp pork belly.

Butter Chicken
Yorkshire Valley Farms organic chicken leg, pan roasted and served over black duck wild rice with house butter sauce.

Rainbow Trout
Linwood Acres trout crusted with a light sugar citrus rub, served with polenta and seasonal vegetables.

Smoked Ribeye
Artisan Farms Angus Beef, cold smoked in-house, accompanied by house-made lemon barbecue sauce.
